Expo 2025: the Italian landscape is a key player at Osaka
The Minister of Agriculture, Francesco Lollobrigida, the President of Confagricoltura, Massimiliano Giansanti and the President of FederUnacoma, Mariateresa Maschio, met in Osaka to discuss the interactions between nature, landscape and agricultural activities. The conference, organized by the manufacturers' association for the week-long Expo 2025 agricultural event, was held this morning at the Italian Pavilion.
Agriculture's mission has always been that of providing for the sustenance of man through the production of food products, but at the same time it also fulfills other important functions, such as taking care of the land. The modern landscape is thus the result of an interaction between nature and those agricultural activities that have contributed to shaping the territory. This was the central theme of the conference entitled “The Italian Agricultural Landscape: Nature, History and Beauty” which was held this morning in Osaka, at the Auditorium of the Italian Pavilion. Organized by the Italian association of agricultural machinery manufacturers (FederUnacoma) during the Expo 2025 “agricultural week, the meeting was attended by the Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, Francesco Lollobrigida, the President of Confagricoltura, Massimiliano Giansanti, and the President of FederUnacoma, Mariateresa Maschio. The Italian landscape is a gift of nature but it is also the result of impressive human endeavor, man - stated Minister Lollobrigida - has transformed it and adapted it to meet production needs. During the conference moderated by FederUnacoma communications manager, Girolamo Rossi, the key role played by farmers was emphasized, not only for the production of foodstuffs, but also for the maintenance of the territory or for other activities that, like tourism, are nevertheless connected to the rural world. The agricultural entrepreneur can deal with these challenges successfully - explained Massimiliano Giansanti - because he is by nature an innovator, the overseer of his own land.
The development of increasingly advanced equipment and machinery, as the speakers highlighted, has allowed for the optimization of agricultural work, rationalizing the use of production factors, increasing yields and ensuring sustainable use of resources. Mechanical vehicles of all kinds, suitable for the most diverse production needs, are today an integral part of the agricultural landscape - stated Mariateresa Maschio - and yet there is also an invisible but decisive technology, made up of satellite and digital systems, and of miniaturized machines to control and monitor production parameters. The conference proceedings also highlighted the importance of synergies between the disciplines of agriculture, environment and food and the need to overcome some bureaucratic barriers that pertain to the administrative management of the territory. Of particular importance is the issue relating to the involvement of new generations in the development of the territories.
The themes of the Osaka meeting were also discussed by FederUnacoma, Filiera Italia and Coldiretti. The promoting of Italy in foreign markets should not be strictly sectoral, but rather global in nature, because - as explained CEO Luigi Scordamaglia - Italian excellence derives from the synergy between natural and territorial resources, between agronomic wisdom, technology, scientific research and marketing ability. Expressing ourselves through a supply chain perspective in a growing number of markets, as Coldiretti, Filiera Italia and FederUnacoma are doing, is the best way to increase exports in our sector and strengthen our image of excellence throughout the world.
The latest FederUnacoma press releases
The FederUnacoma annual meeting, held yesterday afternoon in Varignana (BO), included on its agenda the election of some of the Federation’s representative bodies.
in Bologna from Tuesday, November 10, through Saturday, November 14, were presented during the FederUnacoma general assembly. Applications to participate have reached record levels, and the quality of the exhibits is very high. The Maserati Area is being utilized for the first time, expanding the boundaries of the exhibition grounds. More than 60,000 models of machinery and technologies are estimated to be on display. General Manager Simona Rapastella stated: “EIMA brings together much of the technical, economic, and relationship-building work carried out by the Federation, all aimed at fostering cooperation among countries.”
The resilience of the domestic market offsets the decline in exports, driving the production of the Italian agromachinery industry, which closes out 2025 with a total value of 14.3 billion euros (+2.1%). Looking at the various production sectors, growth is seen in components, spare parts, and tractor parts, as well as in gardening machinery and equipment; conversely, sales of tractors and other agricultural machinery are down. The decline in exports, due primarily to U.S. tariff policies, does not compromise the trade surplus.
Global tractor sales rose in the first four months of the year, reaching 512,000 units. The sector’s performance was driven by India, which continues to set record pace. Traditional markets showed mixed results: the U.S., Canada, and Brazil slowed, Europe held steady, and Turkey saw a sharp decline. A key factor is the stability of the agreement between the United States and Iran.
